This short bike tour to the Rhine Falls and the Lower Lake is ideal for cyclists who don't have too much time but still want to enjoy the beautiful countryside. The Lower Lake is beautifully situated between Swiss villages, Reichenau Island and the Höri peninsular. At the Rhine Falls, huge masses of water thunder into the deep and in Stein am Rhein you can admire the oldest facade paintings found in Switzerland. To ease arrival, the tour starts with an overnight stay in Constance. There's lots to see here too. Explore yourself - a free weekend is perfect!

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance
The big town on Lake Constance has something for everyone's taste. Wander through the old town and discover the small wine taverns, unusual pubs and many individual boutiques. A walk to the harbour where you'll see Constance' landmark - the statue Imperia - or a visit to the Council of Constance can be recommended. A short dip in Lake Constance or the Rhine shouldn't be missed.

Day 2: Constance – Stein am Rhein / Gailingen, approx. 30 / 40 km
Today your bike tour to the Rhine Falls and around the Lower Lake begins! You follow the Swiss bank of Lake Constance to Stein am Rhein. On the way, you pass Arenenberg Castle, the monastery island of Werd and ride through pretty fishing villages such as Gottlieben and Steckborn. Timber-framed houses decorated with frescoes and narrow little winding streets await you in Stein. After an extensive look around, follow the Rhine, which has now left Lake Constance, and head for Gailingen on the Hochrhein, your destination today.

Day 3: Excursion to the Rhine Falls, approx. 50 / 30 km + boat trip
A bike tour to the Rhine Falls is a must for everyone out on a bike along the Hochrhein. You stay on the northern bank of the Rhine and follow the course of the river into the town of 171 gables: Schaffhausen. It's now only about five kilometres to the Rhine Falls and you can get up really close by boat. High up over the thundering water falls is Laufen Castle. From the turret, you have a wonderful view of the area. During late afternoon, you cycle back to Gailingen.

Day 4: Gailingen – Radolfzell – Constance, approx. 55 / 45 km + individual journey home or extension of stay
First, this section takes you back to Stein am Rhein before you reach the Höri peninsular. You'll need to pedal pretty fiercely before you can get back to concentrating on just how pretty the countryside is here - which particularly fascinated Hermann Hesse. You're then soon back in Constance via Gaienhofen and Radolfzell. If you fancy spending the evening in this winding old town, we can extend your bike tour of the Rhine Falls and the Lower Lake by one or several days in Constance.
