Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance
Your Cycle Tour around Lake Constance begins in Constance. Evidence of the Middle Ages can be found everywhere in the historic old town. Many houses from this period can still be found in the oldest part of the town, Niederburg. Also worth seeing: the council building, which was the venue for the only council north of the Alps in the 15th century. A stone's throw away: the Imperia. The statue symbolizes the time of the Council. For a great view over the city, you should climb the cathedral tower. The panorama is breathtakingly beautiful.
Day 2: Constance – Stein am Rhein – Radolfzell, approx. 50 – 60 km
From Constance, you cycle through idyllic little towns along the Swiss lakeshore. Take a break along the way at Arenenberg Castle. The climb is a little steep, but a visit to the Napoleon Museum there is well worth it – including a panoramic view of Untersee. You can take another break in the medieval town of Stein am Rhein. The route continues along the Höri peninsula to Radolfzell. Visit the cathedral with the highest church tower on Lake Constance and spend the evening on Radolfzell's beach promenade.
Day 3: Radolfzell – Friedrichshafen, approx. 60 km
The first few kilometers of today's stage around Lake Constance take you over the Bodanrück. The peninsula is 300 meters above the lake at its highest point. You cross it at its western end and only have a short climb to master. Back by the glistening lake, the route continues to Überlingen. Enjoy the hustle and bustle on the promenade with an ice cream sundae or a cup of coffee before continuing via Meersburg to Friedrichshafen. There you can climb high up to the observation tower on the harbor pier – after 117 steps you have made it, the view of the lake and the mountains will reward you for the climb.
Day 4: Friedrichshafen – Höchst, approx. 50 – 60 km
Not far from the shores of Lake Constance, you cycle through pretty villages to Lindau. Here, too, the mountains seem close enough to touch. Lindau's old town is located on an island – a worthwhile detour. At the harbour, incoming ships are greeted by the 36-metre-high lighthouse and a six-metre-high lion. Climb the 139 steps to the top of the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic view before getting back on your bike towards your overnight destination of Höchst. On the way, another stopover in the festival town of Bregenz is worthwhile.
Day 5: Höchst – Constance, approx. 55 – 65 km
The last stage of your Cycle Tour around Lake Constance takes you back to Switzerland from Höchst. Cycle back to Constance through the canton of Thurgau, known for its apple growing. Take another stroll through the old town and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere at the harbor. Or how about a delicious Lake Constance wine in a wine tavern in Niederburg?
