Connect Lake Constance, Upper Swabia, the Danube and the Württemberg Allgäu with each other on a cycling tour on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path. You start in Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance. After a ferry ride to the other side of the lake, it's time to start pedaling. The region of Upper Swabia demands a few meters of altitude from you and your fitness. Recharge your batteries in the spa town of Bad Saulgau. Go higher in Ulm, where you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city and the surrounding area from the highest church tower in the world. Halfway back to Lake Constance, you will cross the Allgäu region, known for its diverse landscape. At Lake Constance, you cycle back to Constance via the Austrian festival city of Bregenz and the Swiss side of the lake. The journey on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path is ideally suited for the sporty bike traveler. With an average of 75 kilometers per stage, enjoyment and relaxation are not neglected. Wonderful views, mysterious moor landscapes, historic old towns and all kinds of regional specialties sweeten the stages for you. Whether it's the sun-drenched Lake Constance wine, the hearty cuisine of Upper Swabia or Allgäu cheese - the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path is an experience, also culinary!

Day 1: Individual journey to Constance

Welcome to your tour on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Route! You start in Constance! After hotel check-in, grab your bike and explore the harbor. Unmissable: the Imperia, the landmark of the city. The nine-meter-high statue satirically alludes to the Council of Constance in the 15th century. If you would like to visit the flower island of Mainau, we recommend arriving earlier. Enjoy the magnificent blossoms, the impressive old trees and the peace and relaxation of this special place.

2nd day: Constance - Bad Saulgau, approx. 95 km + ferry ride

At the very beginning of your cycling tour on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Route, the longest stage awaits you. First, take the ferry from Constance to Meersburg. Enjoy the view of the lake, the approaching vineyards and Meersburg Castle. Along Lake Constance, the bike path takes you to Immenstaad. From there you cycle into the hinterland in the direction of Markdorf. Passing meadows, forests and moors, you will reach Bad Saulgau, where you will spend the night today, via Aulendorf and Bad Schussenried. Let the sometimes energy-sapping stretches simply bubble away in Bad Saulgau's Sonnenhof-Therme.

Day 3: Bad Saulgau - Ulm, approx. 85 / 95 km

First, the bike path takes you through the largest contiguous moorland area in southern Germany. At Federsee near Bad Buchau, a longer stopover is worthwhile. A 1.5-kilometer-long footbridge leads you across wet meadows and meter-high reeds to the open water area. Ideal for getting to know the moor habitat better. In Rottenacker you will reach the Danube. Would you like to experience more nature? A detour of ten kilometers will take you to Blautopf, famous for its intense blue water color. Your stage destination today, Ulm, is known for the highest church tower in the world. If you are drawn to climb high, you will face 768 steps. Enjoy the panoramic view over the city!

Day 4: Ulm - Bad Wurzach, approx. 80 km

On the Danube-Lake Constance cycle path, you will pass through Upper Swabia today. Imperceptibly you overcome some meters of altitude. Before it goes noticeably uphill to Bad Wurzach, you will make a stopover in Ochsenhausen. A guided tour of the baroque monastery complex provides interesting insights into the 700-year history of the area. Once in Bad Wurzach, you will find yourself in the oldest mud spa in Baden-Württemberg. In addition to a visit to the pretty town center, a soothing stay in the spa is a good idea. Enjoy the effects of the black gold, the natural moor, and the thermal water, which comes to the surface at 34 degrees.

Day 5: Bad Wurzach - Wangen im Allgäu, approx. 60 km

Today's stage is shorter than the previous ones, but no less challenging. Along the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path you will explore the Württemberg part of the Allgäu. Arriving in Leutkirch, you are already in the middle of it all - in the cheese triangle. The towns of Leutkirch, Isny and Wangen form this triangle, as many dairies are located here. Try Allgäu cheese in its most delicious form, the Kässpatzen. Spätzle, cheese and fried onions - hearty and typical for the Allgäu! Visit the historic town centers of Leutkirch and Isnys, freshly strengthened, before you reach your stage destination Wangen.

Day 6: Wangen im Allgäu - Bregenz, approx. 55 km

On the first part of your stage today, you will first overcome a few meters of altitude. When you encounter the first orchards and apple trees, Lake Constance is not far away. With the panorama of the Alps in view, you will now be cycling almost without any inclines. In Kressbronn you will meet the Bodensee-Radweg. After a few kilometers you will reach Lindau. Lindau's old town, which is well worth seeing, lies on a picturesque island. In your overnight stay in Bregenz, visit Bregenz's local mountain - the Pfänder - by cable car and enjoy the fantastic view of the lake and the surrounding Alpine peaks.

Day 7: Bregenz - Constance, approx. 70 - 80 km

Today you are on the Lake Constance bike path. It leads you mostly without ascents and almost always along the shore. Shortly after Bregenz, you will cross the Rhine twice - the (Alpine) Rhine, which was straightened around 1900, and the Old Rhine. A stopover is worthwhile in Rorschach, located at the southernmost point of Lake Constance. A visit to the historic Badhütte can be well combined with a jump into the cool water. A relaxed bathing pleasure is also offered by the lido Horn in your start and destination Constance. And since fresh air is known to make you hungry and thirsty, try Baden specialties in the restaurants and wine taverns of Niederburg.
