The unmistakable charm of Lake Constance, the solidity of the young Danube and the friendly calmness of the Allgäu – let the most beautiful regions of southern Germany work their magic on you. The cycle tour begins in Constance on Lake Constance. Cycling downstream along the Rhine, you will experience the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. Passing the volcanic hills of the Hegau, you reach the Danube. In Mühlheim, you are in the heart of the Upper Danube Nature Park. The sublime Hohenzollern Castle in Sigmaringen shows you the way to Upper Swabia. Cycle through the Upper Swabian spa landscape with Bad Saulgau and Bad Waldsee. From Wangen in Allgäu, the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path takes you back to Lake Constance. The journey from Lake Constance to the Danube and the Allgäu by bike is suitable for those who are not afraid of climbs and longer stages. There is also plenty to enjoy: full-bodied wines from Lake Constance, the hearty cuisine of Swabia and the cheese variety of the Allgäu are your culinary companions on this 9-day trip.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance

The largest city on Lake Constance – Constance – offers you the perfect starting point for your Lake Constance and Bavaria Bike Tour. Famous for the Council of Constance in the 15th century, the old town and the Niederburg castle offer you plenty of opportunity to explore its eventful history. Stop off at one of the quaint wine taverns or soak up the maritime atmosphere on a stroll along the harbor.

Day 2: Constance – Schaffhausen, approx. 50 km

You cycle along the Rhine on the Lake Constance Cycle Path. You cycle through Swiss villages to Stein am Rhein. The medieval-looking old town enchants with its frescoed houses. Pay a visit to the former Benedictine abbey of St. Georgen. It is one of the best-preserved monasteries in Switzerland. It is not far to your destination for the day, Schaffhausen. The Munot is the town's landmark. The fortress high on the Emmersberg, which is surrounded by vineyards, offers a good view of the town. A special feature of the old town are the numerous fountains and richly painted house facades as well as countless bay windows.

Day 3: Schaffhausen – Rhine Falls – Radolfzell, approx. 55 km

After breakfast, today will be mighty and thunderous. Just a few kilometers by bike from Schaffhausen, you will reach the Rhine Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Europe. Experience the masses of water up close on a boat trip to the Rhine Falls rock. Cycle back towards Lake Constance via Stein am Rhein. You reach Radolfzell via the Höri peninsula, famous for its artistic scene. Explore the narrow, winding alleyways of the old town. Fortify yourself for your next stage with some Lake Constance fish and a sun-drenched Lake Constance wine before your journey takes you by bike from Lake Constance to the Danube and on to the Allgäu.

Day 4: Radolfzell – Fridingen, approx. 45 km + train ride or approx. 65 km

With the ancient and long-extinct volcanic cones of the Hegau in view, you cycle from Lake Constance to the Danube and the Allgäu to Engen today. There you have the choice of covering the distance to Tuttlingen by train or tackling the sometimes steep climbs by bike. Take on the challenge and cycle over the Hegaualb to the Witthoh, a mountain range 862 meters high. It's worth the effort: enjoy the panoramic view of the Alps when visibility is good. Downhill you reach the Danube at Tuttlingen. You spend the night in Mühlheim or Fridingen.

Day 5: Mühlheim – Sigmaringen / Scheer, approx. 45 – 55 km

Today you will be walking along the Danube in the Upper Danube Nature Park. If you are not afraid of the climb, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Beuron Danube gorge from the Knopfmacherfelsen rock. A visit to Beuron Monastery is also worthwhile. The baroque monastery complex offers an insight into the everyday life of the monks who still live there today. Passing towering cold stone formations, castles and palaces, you reach Sigmaringen. Over a Swabian classic of lentils with spaetzle and a hearty Zoller-Zwickel, you can make plans for the next stage at the foot of the Hohenzollern castle, which can be seen from afar. You spend the night in Sigmaringen or Scheer.

Day 6: Sigmaringen – Bad Waldsee, approx. 60 / 55 km

The first place worth stopping off at today is Hundersingen. At the Heuneburg open-air museum, you have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Celts. Not far from the town, you leave the Danube Cycle Path. Once you arrive in Bad Saulgau, you will find yourself in the middle of the Upper Swabian spa landscape. Strengthen yourself with a dinnete, a Swabian-Alemannic version of the tarte flambée, before you reach today's stage destination of Bad Waldsee. After today's partly hilly route, a relaxing visit to the Waldsee thermal baths is a good idea.

Day 7: Bad Waldsee – Wangen im Allgäu, approx. 45 km

After starting at Lake Constance and following the cycle path along the Danube, today you reach the Allgäu. Characterized by dreamy little towns, deep blue lakes and impressive Alpine panoramas, the Allgäu radiates a special peace and serenity. The picturesque old town of your stage destination Wangen will inspire you. Colorful houses, the pretty town hall and the many amusing fountains underline the cozy character of the town. There is a cheese museum on the outskirts of Wangen, which presents the long tradition of cheese production in the Allgäu.

Day 8: Wangen – Constance, approx. 45 km + catamaran trip

First you are on the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Path. When you come across the first apple orchards, Lake Constance is not far away. The lake is in sight again in Kressbronn. You now follow the shore of Lake Constance. It is worth taking a short break at Langenargen harbor. If visibility is good, you can enjoy an impressive Alpine panorama. Montfort Castle, built in the striking Mauritanian style, is located not far from the harbor. You will reach the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen with almost no ascent. From here, the catamaran takes you back to Constance in around an hour.
