Travel report: Cycling tour for sporty people around Lake Constance

From our guests Claudia and Michael:

Claudia and Michael decided to go on an active Bike Tour around Lake Constance. They discovered the charming landscape of the Lower Lake and the interesting towns of Meersburg, Lindau, and Bregenz on the Upper Lake. They tell us about their sporty trip in the south of Germany.

1. Day: Arrival in Constance

We drove from the north to Constance by car, including our own bikes (trekking bikes). First we checked into the hotel. A great hotel, beautifully located in the old town of Constance. Our travel documents were even left for us at the hotel.

We left our luggage in our room and drove by car with our bikes to the Radweg-Reisen headquarters in Constance.
We received a very warm welcome there and were given lots of good tips for the trip. We were able to park our car there for a fee.

2. Day: "Let's go" Constance - Stein am Rhein - Constance, approx. 80 km

Our first tour took us past the upper part of Lake Constance, covering approx. 80 km. We started in Constance in the very best weather and in a great mood.
The cycle paths are very well-developed and mostly lead along the water with a view of Lake Constance.
We took our first big break in Radolfzell. We went swimming there and then ate the delicious cherries that you can buy everywhere.

We continued towards Stein am Rhein. An impressively beautiful town. Especially the old town with a view of the Rhine.

At the end of our first tour, we were pretty exhausted but overjoyed that we had made it.
It took us about 6 hours for this tour, with plenty of breaks.

On the way to Bregenz

3. Day: "Osunshine/summerff to Bregenz" Constance - Bregenz, approx. 67 km

After a great breakfast, we set off in the sunshine / summer weather to the port of Constance-Staad, where we took the ferry and bikes to Meersburg.

We cycled along endless vineyards, the grapes looked really ripe and delicious.
We stopped off at a museum in Friedrichshafen.
The Zeppelin Museum is simply fantastic, there is so much to see, so much to read and so much to marvel at. Whether young or old, there is something for everyone. You should allow a good 3 hours for this.

Then we went to Lindau, where we had dinner in a cozy beer garden.
We then cycled to our accommodation in Bregenz and watched the wonderful sunset on Lake Constance over a glass of wine.

4.  ,Day "Hang in there" Bregenz - Constance, approx. 80km

With somewhat tired legs, but in a good mood, we set off on our last stage, which took us through Switzerland. Everything is pretty expensive in Switzerland, especially food. So it's worth taking some provisions from Germany for this stage.
But we simply had to have an ice cream in Rorschach.
We continued towards Romanshorn, and shortly after leaving the town, there was a forest bathing area on Lake Constance where we treated ourselves to a long swim. We reached Constance again in the late afternoon. The cycle path led directly to the harbor, which has a lot to offer: ships, ice cream parlors, and beer gardens. We stayed in the latter until the evening.

Claudia's conclusion:

All in all: A really nice cycling holiday... We'll be back!
