Watching ships on the southern shore of Lake Constance

Romanshorn

It is lively on the promenade of Romanshorn. Here, on the southern shore of Lake Constance, it's wonderful to stroll along and watch the ships sail in and out. Although the Swiss port city has only 11,500 inhabitants, it is an important economic center for the canton of Thurgau.

With its port facilities and railroad station, Romanshorn has been a transportation hub for the region since the 19th century. The history of the small town, however, goes back much further: as early as the 8th century, Rumanishorn was transferred to the monastery of St. Gallen.

Romanshorn is a good starting point for hikes and bike tours along Lake Constance, into the nearby hills and forests of the Thurgau and into the Appenzellerland, which is not far away. Or how about a side trip to St. Gallen, Zurich or Constance? The ships of the Weiße Flotte will quickly take you to the opposite side of the lake to Friedrichshafen.
