Pilgrimage Church

A jewel of the Baroque

Pilgrimage Church Birnau

The pink and white monastery church is the highlight of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route between Überlingen and Uhldingen. It is often compared to a soaring swan. From the terrace, you have a magnificent view over Lake Constance to the Alps.

The Altbirnau church was already a magnet for pilgrims in the 14th century. Even then, it was dominated by the Virgin Mary. The new building of 1749, with its exuberant frescoes, seven altars and lots of stucco, was extremely lavish even for that time. Even today, the interior of the Birnau pilgrimage church is still considered an absolute jewel of the Baroque. Simply overwhelming.

Will you find all ten clocks? A little hint: there are three sundials, four tower clocks, and three in the church itself.

Visitors to Birnau Monastery not only have the opportunity to admire the magnificent architecture, but also to take part in regular church services and spiritual events. The calm and contemplative atmosphere invites you to enjoy a moment of silence and find inner peace.

In addition, Birnau Monastery offers a varied cultural program, including concerts and exhibitions. These events often take advantage of the unique acoustics of the church and the magnificent view of the lake to create an unforgettable artistic experience.,
