Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance
Arrive in Constance by 10.00, drop off your luggage at our office and hop on your bike. From Constance’s Straat district you will take the ferry to Meersburg, meaning you start your weekend trip with a short cruise across Lake Constance. Even though you’re on a car ferry, the view of the historic town centre of Meersburg, the Alpine panorama and of the Island of Mainau across the lake will provide a wonderful start to your journey. In Meersburg, you should take some time to stroll through the medieval town centre. Then you will cycle through the wine and holiday destinations Hagnau and Immenstadt and then reach Friedrichshafen – the city of the Zeppelin. On the lake promenade there are plenty of great spots to stop off and have a snack. A visit to the Zeppelin museum is not only worthwhile for fans of engineering and technology. After leaving Friedrichshafen, the Lake Constance Cycle Path will take you through a nature reserve to Eriskirch and then through the tranquil holiday destinations Langenargen, Kressbronn and Wasserburg. The route will then take you through orchards until you reach the ‘island town’ of Lindau, all the while accompanied by a stunning panoramic view of the Swiss Alps. Have an ice cream on the promenade with a view of the famous harbour and its statue of the Bavarian Lion – a perfect end to the first day of your weekend trip around Lake Constance.
Day 2: Lindau – Arbon, approx. 50 km
After a hearty breakfast you will leave Lindau behind you. However, you should leave enough time to visit the lighthouse at the harbour. Soon you will cross the border into Austria and reach Bregenz. At the weekends the cycle path to Bregenz is busy – the Lake Constance cycle path basically takes you through a huge open-air swimming pool and you will see countless swimmers and sun-seekers on your journey. You should use the opportunity and enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake. The capital of the state of Vorarlberg has a unique charm. The famous lakeside stage for the summer festival and the long lakeside promenade are worth seeing. You should also take the time to visit Bregenz’ upper town, where the historic town centre is located. Cross the Rhine in Hard and then the Swiss border. Cycle through Rorschach and then keep going at a leisurely pace until you reach the Roman town Arbon, where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Arbon – Constance, approx. 35 km + individual departure
From Arbon the Lake Constance Cycle Path will take you along the lakeshore. Cycle past fragrant orchards and use the opportunity to take a dip in the lake at one of the countless inviting spots or savour a cup of delicious Swiss coffee. In Kreuzlingen you will cross another national border, leaving Switzerland behind you. Back in Constance, where you started your weekend trip around Lake Constance you can stroll through the lively town centre, marvel at the harbour and the famous Imperia statue. Collect your luggage in the late afternoon and then begin your journey home. If you wish, we would be happy to extend your weekend trip around Lake Constance and book an extra night in Constance for you.
